The Bacolod City Treasurer’s Office License Division inspection team has discovered some fuel pumps at gasoline stations with broken seals.
The seals may have not been intentionally broken, Jose Ernie Carpintero, License Division head, said Friday, November 11.
He said they were not able to inspect all fuel pumps during the two-year COVID -19 pandemic and the seals may have broken from age and chemical reactions.
The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday passed a resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Raymundo “Kalaw” Puentevella requesting that the License Division strengthen the inspection, testing, calibration and sealing of fuel pumps in all gasoline stations in Bacolod.
Under City Ordinance No. 565 Series of 2011 all dispensing pumps must be properly calibrated quarterly, and sealed by the proper authority to ensure that they are accurate and working properly, Puentevella said.
Carpintero said on calibration of the fuel pumps with broken seals it was found that their accuracy was not far from the tolerable level set by the Department of Energy.
He, however, warned that the intentional breaking of fuel pumps’ seals are considered a violation that will result in the imposition of a fine or cancellation of business permit.
His division aims to finish inspecting all 123 gasoline stations in Bacolod in three to four months, he said.
Carpintero said they are requesting the help of the SP for more personnel, calibration buckets and vehicles to hasten their regular inspections.*
