Former Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has been invited to the birthday celebration and platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth on Thursday, September 1.
Leonardia was invited to the twin event by British Ambassador Laure Beaufils and Neil Naughton at the envoy’s residence at North Forbes Park , Makati City, a press release said.
Leonardia, now a private citizen after serving as Bacolod City mayor for 18 years, said he has accepted the invitation.
In 1997, when Prince Charles, the next in line to the throne, paid a courtesy visit to then President Fidel V. Ramos in Malacanang, Leonardia was also one of the two mayors invited as special guest to meet the monarch at the Palace.
The other local chief executive invited by President Ramos to join the event in Malacanang was former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.*
