The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region and the National Food Authority Regions VI and VII have signed an agreement to ensure a stable supply of rice for persons deprived of liberty across the region.
The memorandum of agreement was signed on Monday, July 27, at the BJMP-NIR Regional Office in Bacolod City.
Under the partnership, the agencies will establish a procurement and distribution system for the continuous delivery of quality rice to jail facilities in the Negros Island Region.
BJMP-NIR Regional Director Jail Chief Superintendent Brendan Fulgencio said the agreement supports the bureau’s responsibility to provide proper food and custodial care to PDLs.
He said a reliable supply of nutritious rice contributes to the health and welfare of people detained in BJMP facilities.
NFA Acting Regional Manager II Balagot stressed the importance of maintaining the continuous availability of rice, while Regional Manager II Corpuz cited the value of coordination between the agencies.
BJMP-NIR said the agreement forms part of efforts to strengthen food security and improve services for PDLs in the region.*
