Biz groups eye partnerships to boost tourism, agriculture

Business chambers in the Visayas are meeting in the last week of July to discuss ways to partner with the government and the academe to strengthen the tourism and agriculture industries in the region.

The business sector in the region has turned its focus to helping develop tourism and agriculture in the region, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President for Visayas Frank Carbon told DIGICAST NEGROS on Sunday, July 2.

These two industries are the major economic drivers in the Visayas, he said.

Representatives of business chambers of the Visayas also met online on July 1 to discuss how to improve their chamber management and partner with local government units, national government agencies, and the academe, Carbon also said.

Apart from tourism and agriculture, PCCI-Visayas will also work with crucial support industries that are power and digitalization, which are vital for businesses to function, he said.

Carbon, who is also the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Officer, said that PCCI-Visayas wants to solidify partnerships with the government to help in growing the economy.

A tripartite partnership between the business sector, academe, and the government is also vital to providing the next generation workforce with skills and knowledge they need for future jobs, he said.

These discussions will be part of the agenda in the 32nd PCCI Visayas Area Business Conference on July 27 to 28 in Panglao, Bohol, Carbon said.

The annual area business conference with the theme “Exploring new Economic Frontiers in Technology, Governance, and Innovation” is expected to be attended by representatives of 23 business chambers in the Visayas.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian will be one of the speakers at the event, where he will discuss “Powering Visayas Industries”.*
