Bigasan ng Bayan’ sells P20/kg rice at Panaad sa Negros Festival

Government-assisted farmers’ groups in Negros Occidental are selling PHP20 per kilogram (kg) rice, through the “Bigasan ng Bayan,” at the ongoing 30th Panaad sa Negros Festival in Bacolod City.

This marks the third consecutive year the Federation of Irrigators’ Association of Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS) is joining the festival, selling lower-priced rice, through the Food Security and Technology Fair, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan.

“As part of our continuing commitment to serve the community, we are offering PHP20 per kilo rice during the Panaad Festival until April 19,” FIACN-BRIS president Pedro Limpangog said on Wednesday, April 15.

The FIACN-BRIS will cater to 100 individuals per day, who can purchase up to 5 kilos of rice each from April 13 to 19.

Beneficiaries are those from the vulnerable sectors, specifically persons with disabilities, senior citizens and solo parents.

“This effort aims to continue promoting food security and supporting those who need it most within the community,” Limpangog said.

FIACN-BRIS, which is under the National Irrigation Administration-Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office, allocates rice supply for the “Bigasan ng Bayan” almost every month. The selling price is aligned with PHP20 per kilo rice program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

In February and March, they also sold 2,500 kilos of rice each in Pulupandan and Murcia towns.

The Negros Occidental provincial government is working with the FIACN-BRIS for its Dagyaw Project to produce high-yield rice at a lower production cost.*PNA
