Bago resident hacked dead in fight over cooking pot

A 54-year-old laborer was killed in a violent hacking incident following a dispute over a cooking pot in Barangay Sagasa, Bago City, on Sunday night, March 1.

The police said the victim was a resident of Purok Mainuswagon in Barangay Sagasa.

Investigators said the victim had been drinking liquor with friends at a shanty earlier that afternoon.

The situation escalated when the suspect, a 25-year-old man known by the alias “Junior,” also a resident of the same purok, passed by the group.

Police reports state that Junior confronted the victim regarding a missing cooking pot that he alleged the victim was using.

Following the verbal altercation, authorities said the victim went home and returned to the scene brandishing a bolo, reportedly acting in an aggressive manner.

In response, the suspect allegedly went to his own residence to arm himself with a cane cutter.

Upon returning, the suspect attacked the victim, delivering a severe hack wound to the lower left portion of the victim’s mouth.

The 54-year-old collapsed to the ground from the force of the injury. The suspect immediately fled the scene following the assault.

The Bago City Rescue Team arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to the Bago City Hospital where he was declared dead.

Officers recovered a bolo at the crime scene.

The Bago City Police, supported by the SWAT team, have launched a hot pursuit operation to locate and apprehend the suspect.*
