Mayor Marina Javellana has ordered a thorough investigation following the discovery of alleged illegal cigarette operations in Bago City and nearby areas.

The recent findings highlight the need for stronger monitoring and coordination among government agencies to curb illegal activities, Javellana said in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 21.

The mayor’s statement came after authorities uncovered a facility linked to the alleged manufacture of counterfeit cigarettes in Brgy. Calumangan during a joint inspection involving the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region and the city’s Business Permits and Licensing Office.

Authorities also discovered a separate warehouse of alleged fake cigarettes in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.

Javellana said the city government will not tolerate illegal operations, particularly those that evade taxes and negatively affect the local economy and public welfare.

She directed concerned offices to conduct a full investigation to determine whether the facility had the necessary permits and to identify those responsible.

The mayor added that appropriate actions will be taken based on the results of the investigation, in coordination with concerned national agencies and the Bago City Police Station.

Javellana also assured continued efforts by the city government to protect residents and maintain a safe and orderly community.*
