Bacolod to open more drainage channels obstructed by salt firm in Banago: mayor

The Bacolod City government is opening up two more drainage channels obstructed by a salt firm in Barangay Banago to prevent flooding at Sta. Clara Subdivision and surrounding areas, Mayor Greg Gasataya said on Monday, August 4.

The city government demolished a wall at Artemis Salt Corporation’s storage facility on Wednesday, July 30, which was obstructing the flow of water, the mayor said.

As a result, it was discovered that drainage channels from Sta. Clara that cross through the salt establishment are blocked, so the water cannot exit to the sea, he said.

One of the two drainage channels has already been found. They are still looking for the other one that is believed to be covered by the salt facility, Gasataya said.

The clearing of road obstructions is also ongoing, he said.

Once they are dismantled, the barangays are tasked with ensuring that illegal structures are not rebuilt in their areas, the mayor said.*
