Bacolod City Police Office personnel destroyed P30,000 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated during the holidays at the BCPO Headquarters on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

A total of 3,972 confiscated and 821 recovered firecrackers were destroyed by the police during the “simultaneous disposal of seized, confiscated, and surrendered firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices and boga”.

The firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices were dumped in a drum filled with water, while a Bureau of Fire Protection truck ran over about 135 bogas.

Col. Joeresty Coronica, BCPO Director, said that the vendors of the confiscated firecrackers did not comply with the city ordinance and policies set by the national government on their sale.

This also shows that the BCPO does not recycle the confiscated firecrackers, he said.

About 10,000 illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated by the police in a series of operations were also destroyed at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office grounds at Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr., Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City, on Jan. 3.*
