The African Swine Fever Task Force seized 198.52 more kilos of pork products worth P104,143 from ASF-hit areas at various entry points in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City from November 14 to 20, Provincial Veterinarian Placeda Lemana said Tuesday, November 22.

There is a ban on the entry of pork and its products from ASF-hit areas, which includes Iloilo, into Negros Occidental to protect the province’s swine industry.

Lemana said of the 198.52 kilos seized, 185.52 kilos worth P100,643 was confiscated and burned.

She said 13 kilos worth P3,500 were shipped back to their owners.

The task force also seized 128.12 kilos of pork and pork products the previous week worth P167,671.

Lemana said even if the number of ASF cases in Iloilo are reportedly dropping, Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will keep a close watch of its borders.

Pork products from ASF affected areas found in grocery stores and retail outlets in Negros and Bacolod will be confiscated, she also said.

ASF is a highly contagious viral disease of pigs, whose mortality rate can reach 100 percent.*
