Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez should be the House Speaker for change to happen, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said on Tuesday, September 9.
Tiangco, in an interview on ANC, said discussions of a leadership shakeup in the House of Representatives started last week.
A total overhaul in the House is needed for reforms to happen, he said.
Tiangco confirmed that there are congressmen who want a change in the House leadership, especially amid accusations that some of its members had accepted kickbacks from infrastructure projects.
He has already discussed with Benitez that it would be better if he becomes the House Speaker, he said.
Some lawmakers are in favor of this but they are only worried about whether they can get the numbers to change the House leadership, Tiongco said.
On Monday Senator Francis Escudero was removed as Senate president and replaced by Senator Tito Sotto.
Tiangco earlier flagged the P13.8-billion insertions allegedly made in the 2025 national budget, saying that all of them were linked to flood control projects.
Tiangco presented a flash drive that contains the insertions but it was barred from being shown at a House of Representatives’ hearing.*
