An unsolicited proposal has been submitted for the expansion of the Bacolod Silay Airport, and the construction of the P189.53 billion Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Island Bridges Project is still pushing through, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Friday, June 16.
The two projects were discussed at the meeting of the Regional Advisory Committee of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council on Friday, he said.
Lacson said there is an unsolicited proposal for the expansion of the Bacolod-Silay Airport, which could mean either an extension of the current runway or the building of another runway.
The expansion of the airport terminal will also go with it, he added.
The PGN Island Bridges Project “is still a go, there is still a little concern about one bidder complaining about another bidder being favored but they said it is still on schedule,” he said.
The bidding is for the Detailed Engineering Design of the project.
Actual construction will begin in 2025, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 6 said.
It covers an entire route of 32.47 kilometers composed of two sections – Section A (13 km Panay-Guimaras bridge) and Section B (19.47 km Guimaras-Negros bridge), the NEDA said.*
