Aboitiz Renewables Inc., the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower, joined forces with local government units, security forces, and community organizations in Sitio Margareta, Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, to plant native tree seedlings across the local landscape.

The collaborative effort brought together representatives from DENR–CENRO Cadiz City, Cadiz City ENRO, the AFP 79th Infantry Battalion, PNP–SAF 2nd Battalion, and BFP Cadiz. Leaders and residents from Barangay Luna, Barangay Caduhaan, GEDI, and local people’s organizations also stood alongside team members from Aboitiz Renewables to carry out the planting, a press release  from Aboitiz said Thursday., Oct. 15.

To help restore native biodiversity and strengthen the local ecosystem, the group planted Kaningag (Philippine Cinnamon) and Almaciga seedlings. Found only in the Philippines, both endemic species play a vital role in protecting local watersheds and supporting indigenous wildlife habitats.

Beyond immediate land restoration, the initiative focuses on advancing long-term environmental resilience across Negros Occidental through active local partnership and shared responsibility, the press release said.

“Reforestation goes beyond putting seeds in the ground—it’s about building a healthier environment for the people who live here,” said Christine Rubi, Solar Project Development Manager at Aboitiz Renewables.

“Seeing our government partners, local agencies, and especially community members work side by side shows what we can achieve when we pool our efforts toward a shared goal”, Rubi said.*
