Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will receive 42,600 doses of Sinovac vaccines on Wednesday, Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, head of the infectious disease section of the Department of Health in Western Visayas, said Monday, June 28.
She said Negros Occidental will receive 34,800 doses and Bacolod City will get 7,800 doses.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the mass vaccination still only covers persons under the A1 to A3 categories – health workers, senior citizens and persons with comorbidities.
They still have not been given the go signal by the national government to include economic frontline workers who fall under the A4 category, he said.
The Negros Occidental provincial government began administering the first doses of its Pfizer vaccines at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City and the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) in Silay City on Monday.
To be administered this week are one half of the 11,700 Pfizer doses received by the province, while the other half will be reserved for the second doses in 28 days, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.
They aim to administer about 1,000 vaccines a day this week with Friday reserved for provincial government employees, he said.
Diaz said 340 Silay City residents were scheduled for vaccination at the TLJPH, and from Talisay City – 445 , Hinigaran – 35 and Silay City – 200 at the Negros Residences on Monday.
Majority of the vaccinees on Monday were indigent senior citizens, Diaz said.
On Tuesday to be vaccinated at the TLJPH are residents from Manapla -14, Calatrava – 17, Toboso – 94, and Cadiz City – 190, while at the Negros Residences 196 from Murcia, Candoni – 43, La Castellana – 42, Salvador Benedicto – 75, La Carlota City – 215 and Valladolid -101, he added.
The COVID-19 vaccination performance of the provincial government has been good, the Department of Health is happy about it and has responded by giving Negros Occidental more vaccines, Diaz said.
The provincial government is set to receive more Sinovac doses and is also ready for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, Diaz said.
In Bacolod City, Sinovac mass vaccination drives at malls and barangays are also ongoing this week.*
