3,409 more Bacolod tricycle drivers receive fuel subsidies – DSSD head

The Bacolod City government, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), distributed fuel subsidies to an additional 3,409 tricycle drivers during a two-day payout held from Friday to Saturday, April 24 to 25.

DSSD Head Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga said the payout was carried out under the directive of Mayor Greg Gasataya, following a review of appeals submitted by tricycle drivers who were initially excluded from the first round of fuel subsidy distribution.

Verdeprado-Mangga said that all drivers who formally filed appeals with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) were accommodated.

“The payout last Friday and Saturday covered all tricycle drivers who submitted their documents. Our office endorsed these applications to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),” she said.

The DSWD is responsible for validating the submitted documents for national government funding, finalizing the list of beneficiaries, and leading the payout in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the city government for acting on their appeals, noting that the subsidy provides much-needed relief amid rising fuel costs, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) said.

During the initial payout, 9,617 drivers received their cash incentives, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 13,026 tricycle drivers across the city, the BCCO said.*
