The global spotlight will shine on Negros Occidental in November 2027 when the province hosts the 22nd IFOAM Organic World Congress and General Assembly, a milestone event expected to provide a major boost to the local economy.

Marco Schlüter, Vice President of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements)  Organics International, highlighted the event’s economic potential on Friday, May 29, as the organization officially entered into a partnership with the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Inc. (NISARD) for the holding of the congress.

The partnership agreement was formally signed by Schlüter and NISARD President Edgardo Uychiat at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson witnessed the signing along with Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr. and NISARD Trustee Albert Jo.

The event will provide a  platform for knowledge exchange, policy dialog, and the advancement of sustainable and regenerative farming systems. It will also serve as a prime opportunity to showcase what Negros has to offer to the world while opening up new  markets, Schlüter said..

Uychiat said  the congress  aims to strengthen global collaboration for organic agriculture and sustainable farming development.

He added that the event will showcase the organic agriculture gains not just of Negros, but of the entire country.

Uychiat also said the  people’s organizations supported by the provincial government that practice organic farming will serve as the primary food suppliers during the five-day congress.*
