Two motorcycle riders died in separate road incidents in Cadiz and Kabankalan cities in Negros Occidental from Friday to Saturday, Aug. 21 to 22.

In Cadiz City, a 39-year-old motorcycle driver identified only as alias “Abel” died after his motorcycle hit the rear of a parked tractor head along the national highway in Purok Yee-on, Brgy. Cabahug at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Abel was driving a Honda Click 125 with two back riders, alias “Ronnie,” 36, and Pedmon Arellano, when the collision happened.

A witness told police that the motorcycle was traveling at high speed when it struck the rear of a Fuso tractor head that was temporarily parked along the outer lane of the highway.

Police said the parked vehicle reportedly had no early warning device.

The motorcycle driver and his two passengers were thrown onto the cemented road and sustained injuries.

They were brought by Cadiz City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel to the Cadiz District Hospital, where Abel was declared dead.

The tractor driver, identified only as alias “Jess,” 45, was brought to the Cadiz Emergency Clinic for medical examination and later placed under police procedures for proper disposition.

Both vehicles sustained damage, while police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

Meanwhile, in Kabankalan City, a 39-year-old motorcycle rider identified only as alias “Jeff” died after colliding with an Isuzu Elf dropside truck along the national highway in Hacienda Bino, Brgy. Orong at around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said the truck, driven by alias “Aloy,” 55, was traveling from Tayasan, Negros Oriental toward Kabankalan City.

Jeff was riding a Yamaha 110 in the opposite direction when he allegedly veered left in an attempt to overtake another vehicle.

Initial investigation showed that the motorcycle rider apparently miscalculated the available clearance and failed to return to his proper lane, resulting in a collision with the truck.

Jeff sustained serious injuries and was brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and received initial treatment before he was placed under the custody of the Kabankalan City  Police Station.*
