Himamaylan City is targeted to house about 1,911 Kanlaon Volcano evacuees, Donato Sermeno III, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Negros Island Region head, said on Friday, Jan.10.

There are 390 tents that were delivered to the Cong. Agustin M. Gatuslao Memorial Center in Himamaylan on Thursday for a Tent City for the evacuees, especially if Alert Level 4 is raised at Kanlaon Volcano.

The tents from OCD Central Office were delivered with support by USAID Philippines through the World Food Programme.

They will be used by evacuees from other LGUs who will relocate to the tent city.

There are not enough tents for the 1,911 targeted evacuees in Himamaylan so others may have to be housed in schools in the city, he said.

The OCD has sent 1,350 tents to Negros, 960 of which are temporarily in storage in Pontevedra.

Of the 960 tents about 390 are targeted to be sent to Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental for the Canlaon City evacuees, Sermeno said.

The remaining tents in Pontevedra may also be used in Himamaylan, he said.

Aside from Vallehermoso the targeted 45,000 Canlaon City evacuees under Alert Level 4 may be brought to Guihulngan City and other areas in the first district of Negros Oriental, he said.*
