VP Sara delivers aid to sacadas in Negros, campaigns vs. NPA

Vice President Sara Duterte stressed the need for education and peace during a visit to about 4,000 sacadas (migrant workers) who gathered in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on Thursday morning, November 16.

The vice president accompanied Antique Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao on her annual “Bisita Sacada” to check on her constituents working as sacadas in Negros Occidental sugar farms.

Duterte, who is also the concurrent Secretary of Education, said during her visit she campaigned against the New People’s Army, noting that there are still a few in Negros Island, and stressed the need for the sacadas to ensure that their children get an education, which is the key to a better life for them.

La Castellana Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan said there were about 4,000 sacadas working in various parts of Negros Occidental who gathered for the visit of the Duterte and Cadiao.

The vice president distributed food packs and cash assistance to the sacadas, Mangilimutan said.

The vice president also visited Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

Duterte said she thanked Lacson and Ferrer for their support for the Office of the Vice President, and the vice governor for his support for her in the last election.

Ferrer said he was honored by Duterte’s visit, it was the first time a vice president has ever visited the vice governor’s office.

Duterte also thanked Negrenses for their continued support for her and the work of the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

Duterte, who also had several engagements in Bacolod City, thanked the teachers for their service and sacrifice to ensure that their students will have better futures.

Duterte joined a tree planting activity at the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School – I in Bacolod City on Thursday.*
