A 12-year-old girl was slightly injured in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, when strong winds from Super Typhoon “Uwan” toppled her house Sunday evening, Nov. 10.
The child was in the house built on top of a stone when the wind toppled it causing it to roll down, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante said.
He said the “Uwan” winds also toppled trees and a wall of school, and further damaged houses earlier hit by “Tino”.
Cadiz City was also declaring a state of calamity, Escalante said.
But overall super typhoon “Uwan” caused minimal damage to the Negros Island Region (NIR), Director Donato Sermeno of the Office of Civil Defense NIR said.
Semeno said 10,868 families with 36,661 individuals were preemptively evacuated Sunday night ahead of “Uwan” in the NIR, and most had gone home on Monday.*
