Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson received the Signum Lasallianum Award, one of the highest institutional honors conferred by the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod, at rites held on Friday, January 23.
The Signum Lasallianum Award is given to individuals whose leadership and public service exemplify the values and mission of Saint John Baptist de La Salle.
The recognition honors his sustained commitment to education, youth and sports development, skills training, and the promotion of good governance in Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, Sonia Marañon Sarrosa received the Fides Award for her life of faith expressed through humble service.
The university cited her support for churches and social ministries, advocacy for the care of creation, strengthening of family life, scholarship assistance to students in need, and partnership with the De La Salle Brothers in Lasallian initiatives.
Lacson said that the Lasallian mission of faith, service, and communion reminds him that public service is not just a responsibility but a calling, one rooted in fairness, accountability, and integrity.
“This award is not mine alone; it belongs to my family, my colleagues in government, and the people of Negros Occidental who continue to believe in honest and compassionate leadership,” he said.
The awarding rites, held at the Santuario de La Salle, were attended by USLS president, Bro. Joaquin Martinez, members of the USLS Board of Trustees, University administrators, the De La Salle Brothers, and other guests.*
