United Negros Alliance members may be running against each other for mayor in two towns in Negros Occidental, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, UNegA secretary general, said on Wednesday, July 17.
Resolving the matter of their partymates possibly running against each other for mayor in Moises Padilla and Binalbagan will be taken up in a UNegA meeting, he said.
As a rule the party honors the equity of the incumbent, that’s the most logical way to resolve it, they will see what they can do, Escalante said.
Escalante said they have been informed that Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo will be challenged for the mayorship by Vice Mayor Ian Villaflor in the 2025 mayoral race.
“We will see if this can be resolved through dialog”, he said.
In Binalbagan former mayor Manuel Aranda has been reported to be planning to challenge incumbent Mayor Alejandro Mirasol.
All four are UNegA members, he said.
Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan of UNegA is on her third and last term. Her brother Councilor Anejo Nicor will run for mayor in her place, Escalante said.
Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, UNegA president, is running for congressman of the 4th District.
Fourth District Board Member Jose Benito Alonso will be fielded by UNegA to run for vice governor in Ferrer’s place, Escalante said.
Ferrer will allegedly be challenged for the fourth congressional seat by retired Public Works and Highways Regional Director Lea Definado, Escalante said.
UNegA and Love Negros are fully supporting the candidacy of Ferrer, he said.*
