The three typhoons that hit Negros Island Region slowed down voter registration, a Commission on Elections official said on Monday, Dec. 1.
Comelec NIR Regional Director Lionel Marco Castillano said 33,755 registered to vote in the NIR from Oct. 20 to Nov. 29.
There were 22,913 voter applicants in Negros Occidental, 10,270 in Negros Oriental and 572 in Siquijor.
Register anywhere was also implemented in Bacolod City, Dumaguete City and Siquijor town.
But Castillano said the turnout was still low.
A series of typhoons affected voter registration and he hopes it will increase during the break in classes, Castillano said.*
