Commission on Elections spot checkpoints are held at any given time in Bacolod City, Elections Supervisor Revo Sorbito said Sunday, March 13.

Checkpoints are held in one place for two hours and then the police move on to other areas, he said.

The police submit an advance schedule of the checkpoints to his office, Sorbito said.

So far, no firearm has been seized at the Bacolod checkpoints since the election period started, he said.

However, about three violators have been arrested for possession of guns in other police operations, and have been charged for violation of the election gun ban, Sorbito added.

The checkpoints are conducted to secure areas and as crime deterrents, he said.

Meanwhile, Sorbito said they were unable to remove illegal campaign materials of national candidates from public places on Friday, March 11.
Heavy rain flooded the Bacolod Comelec office Thursday and they had to clean up on Friday, he said.

Sorbito, who was at the Paglaum Stadium in Bacolod on Friday to monitor the Leni Robredo rally, said social distancing was not observed.

Social distancing was also not observed during the rally for presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Bacolod City recently, he added.*
