A 49-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday morning, Feb. 18.
Police said the shooting happened in Purok La Roca while the victim was transporting student passengers to Lopez Jaena town.
PCapt. Honey Labaro, Murcia police chief, said the victim was declared dead at a hospital.
Initial investigation showed that two suspects riding a motorcycle tailed the victim before the shooting.
When they reached Purok La Roca, the back rider allegedly shot the tricycle driver.
Police said the suspects were wearing bonnets and hooded jackets.
Authorities are now backtracking closed-circuit television footage in nearby areas to identify the suspects.
Police said the motive for the killing has yet to be established.
Labaro said the victim lived in the same barangay where a barangay kagawad was also shot dead last Jan. 26, but police have yet to determine if the two incidents are connected.*
