
Typhoon “Tino” caused the death of students and teachers and P190.9 million in damage to scores of classrooms and school facilities in Negros Occidental, the Department of Eduction reported on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The typhoon displaced 6,346 learners, left 4 dead, 5 missing and 757 injured.
It also displaced 233 teaching and non-teaching personnel, left 3 dead, 4 missing and 10 injured.
Classrooms that were destroyed were 13, with major damage – 133, and with minor damage – 935.
There are also 91 schools that need temporary learning spaces for immediate class resumption, DepEd said.
Also damaged were 24,479 armchairs, 204,412 copies of learning resources used for instructions, 4,456 computer equipment used for instruction and 414 other equipment.
Schools that need cleanup and clearing operation funds are 263, the DepEd also said.*
