Mayor Richard Jaojoco has cancelled classes in Toboso, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday as a precautionary measure after the town was hit by five earthquakes Monday night, Oct. 6 .
An ongoing athletic meet in Toboso will also be postponed, he said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported the town experienced multiple seismic events, including two magnitude 3.4 earthquakes that struck at 7:56 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. Monday. The series of earthquakes included a magnitude 1.5 at 7:55 p.m., magnitude 2.3 at 8:18 p.m. and a magnitude 1.9 at 10:31 p.m., Phivolcs added.
Residents felt the tremors, but they were minor compared to the one that shook Toboso and Cebu on September 30, Jaojoco said.
He said no damage has been recorded from the latest quakes.
The earthquakes were believed to have been triggered by the East Negros fault line in Sitio Burgos, Barangay General Luna, Toboso, he said.*
