The vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years old is the only way to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic that is reaching its tail end, Negros Occidental provincial consultant Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said Monday, February 14.

The vaccination of the children will pave the way to their being able to return to face-to-face classes, sports activities and having a social life again after more than a year, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Benitez and Diaz joined the Negros Occidental provincial government’s launching of the vaccination drive for children aged 5 to 11 at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

The Department of Health target number of 5 to 11 year olds to be vaccinated in Negros Occidental is 363,249 and 81,737 in Bacolod City.

The TLJPH’s festive vaccination area was decorated with standees of Marvel superheroes, buntings and balloons. The children were also entertained by an in-house magician and were given loot bags, ice cream and cotton candy.

Benitez also promised to give them passes to Magikland in Talisay City.

Dr. Ernell Tumimbang called the children superheroes for getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Pediatric vaccination sites will also be opened at other provincial government-run hospitals, he said.

There are 15,000 doses Pfizer- BioNTech vaccines that arrived in Negros Occidental and 10,000 in Bacolod City for the pediatric vaccination campaign.*
