Amidst the rain, ‘pink’ volunteers trooped to the Paglaum Stadium Sunday, March 6, to help clean-up the place in preparation for the People’s Rally in Bacolod City on March 11.
Armed with cleaning tools like brooms, dustbins, scrubs and the like, the volunteers spread all over the grandstand and the field to make sure that the place is clean come Friday when Vice President Leni Robredo and her team arrives for the Grand Rally.
“The pressure is on after seeing the overwhelming crowd in Iloilo, Cebu, Cavite and Bulacan,” Laban Leni Negros Occidental (LLNO) spokesperson Pinky Ocampo said.
LLNO is tasked to handle the event in Paglaum and “we want to make sure that rain or shine, we will deliver our message that Negros is pink,” Ocampo added.
She said that all permits have been secured, including the road closure of Hernaez and Lacson streets on March 11 from morning until after the event.
“We are appealing to the public to avoid those roads surrounding the stadium as we expect a spillover of the crowd to occupy those streets,” she said.
Ocampo said that they will set-up LED walls along Hernaez and Lacson streets to allow people outside to see what’s happening in the main arena and still participate.
She also appealed to the public not to spread fake news that there is registration for the grand rally.
“This is a People’s Rally and it is open to the public. We will open the gates at 1 p.m. on Friday and we encourage everyone to come early as it is a first come, first serve basis. We have a special section for the elderly and persons with disabilities and we have ten medic stations, water and food stations all over the place as well.”
Negros artists led by Charlie Co were also in the stadium Sunday to plan for their art installation as their way of showing support to Robredo’s campaign.*
