Storm won’t directly hit Negros but rains expected, Blue Alert up

PAGASA Tropical Storm “Ada” track as of 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16.*

Tropical Storm Ada is not expected to directly hit Negros Occidental but rains are expected, Irene Bel Ploteña, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head, said on Friday, Jan. 16.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council  Emergency Operations Center (PDRRMC EOC) went on Blue Alert starting Friday in anticipation of the rains brought on by the storm.

Blue Alert is a state of heightened readiness where disaster response agencies place their personnel on 24/7 standby to monitor a potential threat and preposition resources for immediate deployment.

Concurrently, with the prevailing Alert Level 2 (Intensified unrest) over Kanlaon Volcano, the Red Alert status at the PDRRMC EOC also remains in effect for close monitoring and coordination.

Tropical Storm Ada (international name Nock-ten) is the country’s first tropical cyclone for this year.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that Ada may make landfall over the Eastern Visayas and Bicol Regions.*
