The Social Security System (SSS) is encouraging graduating senior high school and college students in Negros Island to become members as they prepare for employment.
The SSS Visayas West 1 Division based in Bacolod is eyeing the social security coverage of nearly 3,000 students of educational institutions to be visited by branch officers across the island.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 2, SSS vice president for Visayas West 1 Division Lilani Benedian said graduating students may apply for an SS number and begin paying their monthly contributions as self-employed members once they start earning from business ventures or freelancing jobs.
“If they get hired in the private sector, they must provide their employers with their SS number and become employed SSS members. It will now be the responsibility of their employers to remit their monthly contributions to SSS,” she added.
Benedian said SSS membership translates to meaningful benefits and loan privileges.
As part of the campaign, the SSS Kabankalan City branch conducted an orientation for students of Binalbagan Catholic College.
Staff of the SSS Victorias City branch headed by Gerard Gonzales also taught the senior high students of Victorias National High School to apply for an SS number using the mobile spp.
“SSS will coordinate with other state colleges and universities to incorporate the value of SSS membership in their graduation kits for the graduates’ future reference for employment,” Benedian said.*PNA
