The Sitio Madaha community in Barangay Bunevista, Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental is experiencing a remarkable transformation fueled by continuous monitoring, mentoring, and collaborative empowerment initiatives that are lighting the path toward a brighter, self-sufficient future.
Driven by the passionate efforts of Hope Builders Negros Island Inc. (HBONi), 94th Infantry Mandirigma Battalion, the Association of Negros Producers, Brigada News FM Kabankalan, and dedicated local partners such as LN Agustin Farm Inc & Shekinah Foundation, the community has taken giant strides in youth development, agricultural innovation, health preparedness, and economic empowerment.

The Youth Empowerment Program spearheaded by HBONI has ignited the potential of young students, equipping them with vital skills and inspiring leadership that will shape the next generation of changemakers in Sitio Madaha.
Agricultural productivity received a powerful boost through expert-led training on crop production by Leonel Flores, empowering farmers with modern techniques to enhance food security and sustainable livelihoods.
Health and safety took center stage with a comprehensive First Aid Responder Training involving the Bantay Bukid volunteers and Barangay Health Workers from Sitio Madaha and Sitio Bulasot. This initiative ensures the community is ready to face emergencies with confidence and care.
Economic empowerment reached new heights as the Madaha Hand Weavers Association underwent intensive capacity building by Ms. Sybel Nobleza of the Association of Negros Producers. This preparation paves the way for their exquisite handcrafted products to shine at prestigious venues like the Obra Negrense Showroom and national events such as the Likha and Negros Trade Fair—opening doors to wider markets and sustainable income.
The generous turnover of medicine kits and first aid supplies by Ms. Geovette Joan Agustin of LN Agustin Farm & Shekaina Foundation has fortified the community’s health resources, while HBONi’s donation of 120 raincoats and 100 lunch boxes, coupled with inspiring storytelling sessions, has uplifted the spirits and welfare of the children.
The unwavering support and security provided by the 94th Infantry Mandirigma Battalion have been instrumental in ensuring these transformative activities unfold smoothly and safely.
LTC Zeigfred Tayaban of the 94th Infantry Mandirigma Battalion shared his reflections on Sitio Madaha’s unique charm and progress:
“Sitio Madaha is a breathtaking hidden gem within Brgy. Buenavista, where the purity of nature meets the vibrant, enduring traditions of Indigenous people. When the 94th Infantry Battalion recognized the immense potential of this community for peace and development, no one could have imagined that Sitio Madaha would stand as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of development—driven and sustained by the strength and empowerment of its own people.”
This powerful coalition of organizations and individuals is not just empowering Sitio Madaha—it is crafting a blueprint for resilient, empowered communities across the region. The success here is a testament to what unity, dedication, and strategic support can achieve.
“Our work here is far from over. We’ve made progress, but we won’t rest until the community of Sitio Madaha is fully equipped to tackle their biggest challenges, like road improvements and access to electricity. We’re actively seeking partners who share our vision and can help us advocate for these critical needs and bring real solutions to the table.
