Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will receive 20,000 vials of Sinovac and 2,140 vials of Moderna vaccines on Tuesday, City Administrator Em Ang said on Monday, August 9

The COVID-19 national vaccination program is following priority groups to allocate the vaccines to those who need them the most because of the global scarcity of supply, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire of the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Bacolod and Negros Occidental will receive 10,000 Sinovac vials and 1,700 Moderna vials each, Ang said.

A Sinovac vial is equivalent to one dose and one Moderna vial contains 14 doses, Ang said.

They will arrive at the Bacolod–Silay Airport via Cebu Pacific at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday.

Sinovac and Moderna vaccines also arrived at the Iloilo International Airport on Monday for Panay Island.

The DOH said an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country is being experienced across all age groups and not just among children.

Among the age groups, the highest increase was observed among the 30-39 age group and the lowest among those 80 years old and above,Vergeire said.

“To all adults already eligible for vaccination, please register with your local government units for immediate vaccination while children are not yet being vaccinated. By vaccinating yourselves, you are also protecting the children as you will shield them from possible COVID-19 infection,” Vergeire said.

She also reminded vaccinated individuals to continue to follow the minimum public health standards such as correctly wearing face masks and shields, physical distancing, washing of hands, and ensuring proper ventilation.*
