Septuagenarian nabbed for alleged child abuse

A septuagenarian was arrested by the police for alleged molestation of a neighbor’s minor-child in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City.

Nabbed was 70-year-old Anastacio Mesa.

Armed with an arrest warrant issued on October 14 by Bacolod Regional Trial Court Judge Maritess Gumahin, personnel of Police Station 3 swooped down on the house of the suspect to apprehend him today, December 3.

In the police report, the suspect was charged for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, for an act of sexual intercourse of lascivious conduct with a child exploited in prostitution or subject to other sexual abuse when the victim was under 12 years of age.

Cpl. Ian Joy Brinquez, the investigator of the case, said the incident happened early this year. He added that the family of the boy pursued the case against the elderly suspect.

The court has set P180,000 for his bail.

The suspect is now detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 3.*
