Senior citizen dies, companion injured after truck hits pedestrians in Bacolod

A 76-year-old woman died while her companion was injured after they were hit by a truck at the corner of Araneta Avenue and the Alijis-Murcia Road in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, on Wednesday afternoon, March 11.

Police identified the fatality only as “Teresita,” a resident of Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Authorities said the victim was brought by ambulance to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but later died.

Her companion, identified as “Gretel,” 67, a resident of Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, sustained injuries and was brought to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

Police identified the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter truck as “Faustino,” 66, a resident of Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.

Authorities said the driver was also brought to a hospital and is currently detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 8.

Police investigation showed the two pedestrians were standing along the roadside when the truck, which was turning from Araneta Avenue toward Alijis, hit them.

Police said the truck continued moving and hit posts on the side of the road.*
