Sea travel to and from the Negros Island Region was allowed to resume Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 25, the Philippine Coast Guard announced.

The resumption of sea travel was granted following the state weather bureau’s lifting of Wind Signal No. 1 over the Negros Island Region at 5 p.m. Tuesday with departure of Tropical Depression “Verbena”.

Nearly 500 passengers were stranded in ports across the Negros Island on Tuesday morning as “Verbena”.

Data from the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas showed 499 passengers in the NIR were unable to travel between 8 a.m. and noon.

At least 27 vessels and 213 rolling cargoes were stranded.

Twelve vessels took shelter due to strong winds and rough seas.

Coastal communities, fisherfolk, and operators of small boats were advised to avoid sea travel until conditions improve.*
