San Enrique town in Negros Occidental has halted its hog repopulation activities as there have been reported mortalities, Mayor Jilson Tubillara said on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
They have stopped their sentineling and repopulation activities as hog raisers have reported pig deaths in some of their areas, he said.
“We might opt to introduce another livelihood program for the hog raisers as there are still reports of pig deaths in various areas of the town”, Tubillara said.
He said that there are pigs that have survived and they are observing them until they can repopulate.
With the reports coming from the local hog raisers, Tubillara said that their local pork industry is taking a toll from these continued hog mortalities in the area.
The mayor said that they already have submitted blood samples for laboratory examination to the province as the deaths could have been caused by cholera or African Swine Fever.
