A 32-year-old laborer died after being electrocuted while crossing a barbed wire fence in Barangay Batuan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental, at about  11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16.

The victim, a resident of Sitio Irrigation, Barangay Batuan, was working as a rice planter.

An investigation by the San Enrique police revealed that the victim had entered a nearby private property to relieve himself in a secluded area.

While attempting to cross a barbed wire perimeter fence, he accidentally came into contact with an energized wire.

The victim was rushed to the Valladolid District Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.

Further investigation revealed that an extension wire connected to the property owner’s electrical system led to a nipa hut, where a water-pumping machine was in operation.

Police believe the victim made contact with the energized wire while his body was wet, which caused the electrical discharge.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.*
