San Carlos boosts poultry production

The San Carlos City poultry multiplier farm in Brgy. Buluangan has registered a remarkable increase in production of free-range chicken and Pekin duck, a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office showed.

Of the original stocks of 200 free-range chicksas breeders, a total offspring of 977 heads were produced in less than a year, resulting in the dispersal of 403 heads to qualified farmers-beneficiaries in the locality.

Also, Pekin duck production increased its production, from 50 heads to 512 heads in less than a year. A total of 138 ducklings were dispersed to farmer-beneficiaries.

This was attributed to sound management by the LGU and strong collaboration of the PVO District Field Unit that provided the technical support and assistance in the management and operation of the FRC and Pekin duck multiplier farms.

To date, the province through the PVO is producing its upgraded animals for breeding and dispersal purposes under its Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program (PAGIP), where it aims to sustain the production efficiency of local breeds.

The establishment and operation of multiplier farms is a continuing project of the province anchored on agricultural productivity and food sufficiency under the Abanse Negrense Development Agenda, in partnership with local government units.*
