Sagay mayor leads contract signing of Marañon scholarship program

Mayor Alfredo Marañon challenged the new scholars of the Alfredo G. Maranon Jr. Scholarship Program, at contract signing rites in Sagay City, to hurdle challenges they face to achieve their dreams in life.

In a general assembly held today, November 27, at Balay Kauswagan, Marañon said that the scholars should always grab the opportunity to study, especially in these trying times.

“It is our will power to hurdle this trying times. We need to persevere and adjust. We need to be grateful that we are here and alive and have this opportunity”, he said.

There are 375 scholars enlisted in the program this school year in the following courses: BS in Engineering, BS in Civil Engineering, BS in Mechanical Engineering, BS in Chemical Engineering, BS in Electrical Engineering, BS in Education, BS in Veterinary Medicine, BS in Accountancy, BS in Nursing, Midwifery, BS in Agriculture, BS in Fisheries.

The Alfredo G. Maranon Jr. Scholarship Program, which has been in existence for 11 years, has had nearly 4,500 scholars, 612 of whom have graduated.

Marañon said for the last two months the Sagay City government and Department of Education representatives have also been distributing school supplies, especially in far-flung areas.*
