Sagay holds ‘Diin Tabo Man?’arts month celebration

The Sagay City government together with artist Nunelucio Alvarado of Syano Artlink held the 10th year of “Diin Tabo Man? Nature Encounter” arts celebration, as face-to-face activities are back three years after the pandemic.

“Diin Tabo Man?” is Alvarado’s annual event where he gathers artists and the community-at-large to conduct workshops, performances, and talks held at the Margaha Beach in Brgy. Old Sagay and other key places of the city every February.

The city-wide series of activities included a sculpture workshop with Noi Gonzalez, “Art Kutso-Kutso” with Alvarado, Margaha Sculpture with Noi Gonzales and Sagay Artists, Mural Interactive Painting on Canvass, “Dagyaw Layag kag ang mga Haligi”, “Ma-ambong” Exhibit with PintaSagaynon, “Pikahanay sa Baybay” of Sagay Tattoo Artists with performers Martin Miravelles, Lex Chavez, Uknown Poets, Lex Lim, Red Garter, and Yotnek Herbsman and the Bougainvillea Kids Visual Arts Mentoring with PintaSagaynon mentors Leo Carton, Gerome Booc and Arvin Hervias;

“Pag-updanay” art exhibition with Bougainvillea kids, Enzo Camacho and Amie Lien, Rendezvous: A Meeting of Sagay Poets, “Komposo” King & Queen, Island Composition Workshop, Hand-made papermaking workshop, Tinder: A Poetry Reading, Saot sa Margaha, Art Burador Exhibition, and the Margaha Film Festival.

Alvarado said “arts are the soul of the community. Let us continue to help our community understand the importance of arts and promote the seven disciplines of arts. “

“Diin Tabo Man? Nature Encounter” was first held in Brgy. Fabrica, and was moved to Margaha in 2013.

This annual event has been recognized as one of the top three arts and culture events in the country at the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP)- Pearl Awards last year.

Mayor Narciso L. Javelosa Jr said cultural programs are important in building a more progressive City.

Vice Mayor Leo Rafael M. Cueva meanwhile said “we are blessed to have an internationally recognized visual artist like Nune Alvarado who continues to champion the cause of the community and arts. I am happy that various community of artists continue to pursue their arts.”

This arts month celebration of Sagay is one of the main events of the city this year and will be followed by the Sinigayan Festival in March.*
