Sagay City probes parent’s care concerns at Alfredo E. Marañón Memorial Hospital

The Sagay City government is looking into concerns recently raised by a parent regarding the medical care provided to her child at the Alfredo E. Marañón Sr. Memorial District Hospital.

Sagay Mayor Leo Rafael M. Cueva, in a statement issued Monday, Oct. 26,  said that as a parent, he understands how frightening and difficult it can be to see one’s child suffering from an illness, especially when there are questions and uncertainties about the medical care being provided.

“We sincerely hope for the child’s recovery, and we want to assure the family that their concerns are being heard and taken seriously,” he said.

Cueva said that the city government is looking into the matter to establish what happened and determine whether proper procedures and standards of patient care were observed.

The mayor has scheduled a meeting with hospital administrators and concerned personnel as soon as possible this week to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, including available medical records, the care provided, and the concerns raised by the family.

“I also want to acknowledge our doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel who continue to serve our community, often under difficult and demanding circumstances. We recognize their dedication, sacrifices, and the responsibilities they carry in caring for our patients,” Cueva said.

“Our healthcare workers deserve fairness, understanding, and respect throughout this process,” he added.

Cueva also reminded everyone involved in providing healthcare services that every patient deserves compassionate, attentive, and respectful treatment.

“Should the review establish any shortcomings in the delivery of care or hospital procedures, we will ensure that appropriate corrective measures are taken in accordance with established processes,” he said.

Cueva emphasized his commitment as mayor to ensuring that the local public hospital remains a trusted institution.

“Our public hospital is a place where Sagaynons can seek medical care with confidence, knowing that their health, safety, and dignity are valued. We ask for everyone’s understanding as the review continues,” he said.

“We will respect the privacy of the patient and family, as well as the rights of the hospital personnel involved,” Cueva added.*
