“After serious reflection and much effort to unify the anti-administration forces, Vice President Leni Robredo has finally made the only logical decision – that she must lead the fight to reclaim our country from the clutches of a treacherous administration,” former Negros Occidental Gov. Rafael Coscolluela said Thursday, October 7.

Robredo, 56, announced Thursday that she is running for president in the 2022 national elections as an independent candidate.

She has “the courage, the competence and track record, the integrity and empowering leadership that our next President must have, if we want an end to misgovernance and incompetence,” Coscolluela, a 1Sambayan convenor, said.

Coscolluela said he joins the many Filipinos all over the country and around the world who pledged “their time and resources to Let Leni Lead, so that we, together, can win back our country, our pride and our future.”

Bacolod lawyer Andrea Si said “the country has been through five years of a violent drug war, misogyny, strong-arm governance, suppression of our freedoms, violation of Constitutional rights to due process, and apparently, the kind of corruption that we were promised would not be tolerated by this administration”.

She said Robredo’s decision to run gives her and millions of others, hope for the future.

Among the presidential aspirants only Robredo “has proven competence, unquestionable respect for the Constitution, clarity of mind and vision, focus on the work that needs to be done, the ability to unite people around her, and most of all, a true unselfish heart that is not grasping for money, or power, or glory”, Si said.

Supporters of Robredo in Bacolod were seen wearing pink Thursday in a show of support for her presidential bid.

University of St. La Salle president, Bro. Kenneth Martinez, said he had no statement on Robredo’s bid for the presidency, but “we support all efforts to allow the best motivated candidates with a proven track record of public service and love for our people with no favor of family or friends in their dealings to be known to all”.

“We support responsive and transformative leaders who will seek their public service in peace, unifying all towards fighting the pandemic in our country. Our mission as a university is to educate our communities to see an educated vote for leaders happen in 2022,” he added.*
