Rebel killed, 4 captured in Negros Oriental clash

A rebel was killed while four others were captured following a clash with state troopers in Brgy. Sandayao, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, Saturday night, January 15.

Soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) were conducting operations in the area, which was devastated by Typhoon “Odette,” when they encountered around 12 New People’s Army rebels, a press release from the Army said Sunday.

The encounter that lasted for five minutes resulted in the death of one rebel and the capture of four others, including two minors.

No casualties were reported on the government side.

Recovered from the encounter site were one KG9, one .45 caliber pistol, backpacks, assorted ammunition, subversive documents, and belongings.

The Army said that the rebels were conducting extortion activities in the area.*
