Raisers in 3 LGUs hardest hit by pig deaths to receive aid

The backyard hog raisers of San Enrique, Bago City and Ilog, which have been the hardest hit by pig deaths from various diseases, will be the first to receive financial assistance from the Negros Occidental provincial government next week.

Affected hog raiser will receive P2,000 each, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Friday, July 14.

The assistance will be delivered by the provincial government to the affected pig raisers, he said.

San Enrique has 2,671 pig deaths comprising 99.22 percent of its hog population and affecting 508 raisers, the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Incident Management Team (PABIMT) reported Friday.

Bago City has 2,433 pig deaths or 11.93 percent of its hog population and affecting 319 raisers, the report added.

Ilog has 1,390 pig deaths affecting 431 raisers.

There have been 16,985 pig deaths in 152 barangays in 20 local government units in Negros Occidental with total losses of P192, 818,550.

This has affected 3,835 pig raisers.

The latest barangay to be hit by pig deaths is Bulwangan in San Carlos City, the PABIMT reported.*
