More Mt. Kanlaon volcanic debris again flowed through Ibid Creek in Sitio Tamburong, Brgy. Biak na Bato, La Castellana, amid heavy rain on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The muddy stream flowed through the creek, which is being cleared of hardened volcanic ash, without overflowing, said Remuel Lajo, La Castellana Incident Management Team Commander.
It passed through a culvert box at the bridge at Ibid Creek that had just been cleared of the hardened ash, he said.
The clearing of the area at the bridge helped, Lajo said.
They remain on alert for more heavy rain that could cause flooding in the area, he said.
Clearing of hardened volcanic debris at the creek stopped on Thursday because of the heavy rain, he said.
The target is to clear about 28,000 cubic meters from the creek to prevent flooding. So far only 976 cubic meters have been cleared, Lajo said.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the provincial government will continue to help in the clearing of the creek.
“We are doing our utmost best,” he said, adding that other local government units could also help.
The governor also called for prayers that Mt. Kanlaon continues to simmer down after it emitted mild volcanic ash this week.
