PVO: Negros pork supply stable, enough for MassKara, holidays

The Provincial Veterinary Office on Thursday, Oct. 17, assured that there is stable supply of pork for the MassKara Festival and the holidays in December.

Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Placeda Lemana, said that local hog raisers are continuously shipping out hog supply to Panay and Luzon and pork supply is sufficient in the province.

Lemana said “because we ship out, it means that the local supply is sufficient”.

Pork prices range from P270 to P370 a kilo, she said.

Hog repopulation efforts are also continuing as the provincial government has already distributed breeder pigs in some areas and trained swine inseminators to reduce the number of traveling boars.

Lemana said that every month, they are distributing breeder pigs coming from the Negros First Ranch and artificial insemination centers in the province.*
