The Provincial Veterinary Office is distributing feeds to 24 local government units that are operating poultry multiplier farms in the province to boost poultry productivity.

Each poultry multiplier farm will be receiving 10 bags of grower mash/crumbles as a component of this year’s establishment and enhancement of the poultry multiplier farms project under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program (PAGIP).

The PVO kick off the distribution on January 22 and is expected to be completed by January 29.

The first batch of feeds was distributed to the cities of Bago, and La Carlota, and municipalities of San Enrique, Pontevedra, and Valladolid.

The feed distribution is said to be timely due to weather disturbances experienced for the past two weeks.

The project, which was established by the provincial government in partnership with the recipient LGUs, aims to sustain the production efficiency of existing local breeds of free-range chicken and Pekin ducks.

The province provides for the construction of the building, perimeter fence, electrical installation, brooder cages, incubator, initial stocks and initial feeds while the recipient LGU provides the land area and will to operate the project.

Right now, the existing free-range chicken multiplier farms have a population of 1,585 breeding stocks, while Pekin ducks have 1,791.

Last year, a total of 4,170 heads of free-range chickens and 405 heads of Pekin duck were dispersed.*
