PRO-NIR heightens disaster readiness for rainy season

The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has assured the public that it is fully prepared to respond to emergencies as the rainy season continues to bring risks of flooding and landslides across Negros and Siquijor.

Regional Director BGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said all police units across Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor have been directed to ensure that rescue equipment, mobility assets, and communication systems are ready and functional.

Inspections and inventories of search-and-rescue tools have already been conducted to confirm preparedness, he also said at a press conference on Monday, August 18.

“We stand fully prepared to ensure public safety and security during the rainy season”, he said, adding “PRO-NIR is closely coordinating with local government units, particularly the LDRRMCs, and other partner agencies”.

He added that contingencies have been laid out in flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas to guarantee rapid response.

Ibay also called on the public to work with authorities by heeding official advisories, reporting emergencies through 911 or local hotlines, and practicing safety measures.

“By working hand-in-hand with authorities during this season, we can collectively reduce the risks posed by severe weather,” he added.*
