Policeman shot in Toboso drug bust awarded medal

A policeman was injured after he was shot in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Felisa, Brgy. Magticol, Toboso, Negros Occidental, early Saturday morning, June 8. 

PSSgt. Ronnie Melgar, 40, was shot by one of the three suspects in the buy-bust operation where P417,588 worth of suspected shabu was seized, the police reported. 

Albert Alico, 32, alias “Nonoy Gahe”, a resident of Brgy. Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, allegedly shot the policeman and remains at large, the report said. 

The police arrested Joery Dela Cruz, 45, a high-value target from Calatrava, and Aries Azucena, 30, from Toboso who was tagged as a station-level top 5 drug personality. 

Gahe deliberately shot Melgar on his right arm, the police said. 

Recovered from the suspects were 61.41 grams of suspected shabu, a .45 caliber pistol, ammunition, P22,650 cash proceeds, various drug paraphernalia, and other non-drug items.

Together with Wanky were Negros Occidental Police Provincial Director Col. Rainerio De Chavez, Deputy Police Provincial Director Ariel Pico, Toboso Vice Mayor Richard Jaojoco, and Municipal Station Commander Maj. Jun Ray Batadlan. 

The arrested suspects are detained at the Toboso Police Station.*
